Beer Lab Construction Update #5

Despite several days of snow delay since our last construction update, we've been able to get a lot of work done and crews are on site working hard to keep us as close to on-schedule as possible.

The first thing that happened since our last update was all of the drywall being finished, mudded, and sanded so that it is now ready for the painters, who will be arriving next week.

The cooling system for our walk-in cooler has been installed. Once it gets wired up, this cooler will keep lots of beer cold!

We spent the better part of a weekend hanging our glycol piping which will provide glycol to our fermentation tanks, keeping our fermenting beer at the proper temperature. You'll see in the photos below the hangers that were installed, the conduit for running the wiring to the tanks, and then the insulated pipe that will transport the glycol.

This week, crews have been busy working on the floor and the ceiling. A big team has been grinding down our floors, removing all of the glue that had been holding down the carpet from previous tenants, making it as smooth as possible, then pouring a gorgeous layer of epoxy in the brewery that will protect it from chemicals and heavy equipment. The rest of the floor is being finished with a clear concrete seal.

Now that all of the work has been completed above the ceiling, we had the ceiling grid repaired and re-installed. And, the most tedious job of all, Katy and I spent two long nights installing black grid tape to the ceiling grid so that it will match our black ceiling tile.

The beer garden is finally starting to take shape, also. While it's still a muddy mess (and, unfortunately, will likely stay that way until late summer when we can get some grass to grow), we have our posts installed that will be used to mount our market lights and sun shades. And, we've poured the concrete connecting our two new doors, and providing a place for our glycol chiller to sit. Additionally, our new (massive) HVAC unit has been installed behind the store, so you should always be nice and comfy when sipping on a beer at The Jug!

For some reason, the thing I am most excited about is that our new sign is in place! The sign makes everything feel more real (as if all these other things didn't make it real enough). And, if nothing else, it will help us show people where our new store will be, now that you can't miss this beauty of a sign!
